I am a really basic video editor. I have used iMovie in the past, but no professional tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, that support more advanced techniques and organization. I think that I will need these features to support my online course development workflow and meet my goals. In the next few weeks, I plan to develop a first week of course materials and a course “Preview” video. This post is a running list of resources that I found useful and maybe some drafts of materials.
Adobe Premiere Pro Tutorial

- Break up main video into shorter clips
- Create multiple timelines for each clip that will be separately exported
- Further trim each timeline
- Audio levels
- Color Grading
- Export and upload to echo360
- Add video segments to Canvas weekly module
First Draft of Systems for Data Science Lecture 1
I put this series of videos together to test my video editing skills. I used an existing lecture from this semester and edited it into shorter segments. In my Canvas LMS, these segments will be interspersed with short multiple-choice quizzes to provide formative assessment.
Process Notes
- Should I leave drafts available on this blog? On the one hand it would be fun to see my progress. On another people might find it and think it’s representative of my work. Hrm.
- Copyright Rights. I use a lot of random clip-art in my slides. I need to work on either acknowledging my sources or getting new Public Domain materials before releasing these publicly.
- Do I want to make the materials available publicly on my YouTube channel?
- An easy ten-step workflow! Hurray! I’m worried editing each lecture into separate segments is going to take forever.
